How to spot it

This one changed with the June 22 update: a purely static photo used to be a guaranteed Shapeshifter tell, but it no longer is โ€” shooting a patient over a static photo now might just knock out a normal patient instead of confirming a threat. It's still an anomaly, and letting it in triggers a Death Ritual, but static alone is a weaker signal than it used to be. The safest play post-update is simply shutting the window rather than shooting on a static photo alone.

If you get it wrong

Letting a Static Photo patient in triggers a Death Ritual. Given the June 22 accuracy change, treat any static photo as a reject-the-window situation rather than a shoot-to-confirm one.

โš ๏ธ Common mistake

Treating slime or a static photo as automatic proof is a common beginner error. Patients dropping slime are NOT necessarily anomalies, and static photos stopped being a guaranteed Shapeshifter tell after the June 22 update โ€” don't shoot based on static alone anymore.
